Towards scalability: reflections from the 4th Precision Nutrition Forum in Stockholm

The 4th Precision Nutrition Forum, organised by Chalmers University of Technology under the theme “Scaling Precision Nutrition: Pathways to Population-Health Impact”, brought together international researchers and partners in Stockholm on 31 August and 1 September 2026. Sessions spanned multi-omics, microbiome research, AI, digital phenotyping, novel study designs, and implementation strategies — reflecting the growing breadth of the field.

GLUCOTYPES coordinator Jordi Merino was part of the organising committee, and several project partners participated in the event. Jordi also presented work rooted in GLUCOTYPES’ Work Package 1 (CGM-derived glucotypes and intersection with diet), addressing three interconnected challenges: the need to study metabolic heterogeneity early in the research process; the importance of better characterising glucose response curves beyond simple summary metrics; and the case for modelling the broader physiological state rather than focusing on glucose alone.

These questions sit at the heart of what GLUCOTYPES is working to answer, and they are increasingly central to the precision nutrition field as a whole.

“Since we started this meeting series in 2022, the field has matured considerably. From initial inspiration to some form of consolidation, precision nutrition is now being embraced by the broader research community. The next challenge is to find paths for scalable solutions and better understand why people respond differently, in ways that enhance scalability.” — Jordi Merino, GLUCOTYPES Coordinator
