The University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) hosted the 2025 Annual Meeting of the GLUCOTYPES project on 12 & 13 Nov 2025. Partners from seven leading institutions across Europe gathered to review scientific progress and shape the next phase of work toward personalised strategies to prevent type 2 diabetes.
Over two days, researchers shared updates across the project’s six work packages. Discussions highlighted strong progress and expanding opportunities for scientific and technological impact. The consortium was also joined by members of the Scientific Advisory Board, whose thoughtful questions and guidance supported the project’s scientific reflections. The partners are especially grateful for their active participation throughout the meeting.
Advancing CGM-Derived Glucotypes and Predictive Modelling
The Work Package 1 team presented new analytical approaches for identifying glucotypes—patterns of individual blood glucose response—using large, multi-cohort datasets. Partners showcased the development of predictive models and strategies to integrate dietary information. A workshop generated several ideas for future refinement, including clinical translation pathways and public-facing content on the role of AI in glucose monitoring.
Progress in Glycomics and Biomarker Discovery
Work Package 2 reported strong advances in N-glycan profiling across plasma and tissue samples. Partners outlined improved workflows, high-throughput profiling plans, and emerging biological insights, including observable differences in glycan patterns across tissue types. Quality control and harmonisation strategies were also presented to support robust biomarker discovery within upcoming analyses.
Dietary Intervention Studies and Metabotyping
In a session dedicated to Work Package 3, the consortium partners reviewed the timeline for the upcoming dietary intervention study and presented updates from cohort analyses that explore how metabolic subgroups respond differently to dietary patterns.
Strengthening Innovation, Communication, and Outreach
Discussions on Work Package 4 activities focussed on opportunities for strengthening the project’s innovation potential, and the exploration of new formats and channels of communication to broaden engagement beyond the academic community. Participants engaged in a hands-on session in which several ideas emerged and will be further persuaded.

Building Collaborative Spirit Through Shared Experiences
Alongside scientific discussions, the programme included social activities designed to strengthen collaboration and reinforce the team’s shared purpose. Participants enjoyed a guided visit to the historic Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela and a working dinner on the first evening. These moments provided valuable opportunities to build relationships, get to know one another better, and deepen the consortium’s collaborative spirit.
Shared Commitment to Impactful Outcomes
The meeting concluded with a summary of achievements and priorities for the coming year, including preparation for the 2026 project review. The consortium reaffirmed its commitment to generating actionable scientific insights that support better prevention and management of type 2 diabetes.
